Rooting your T-Mobile G1 or myTouch 3G Android phones is simple by all accounts as long as you follow instructions. It consists of two steps, with the first step having two options. Step one consists primarily of replacing your recovery image and the two options for this are that you can do so either automatically or manually. Automatically is by far a lot quicker and easier but may also leave you susceptible to certain security loopholes that could cause potential headaches down the road.

Manual replacement of your recovery image takes a bit longer and is more in-depth, but will fully secure you against all potential loopholes/security breaches and will also give you some extra knowhow and insight into the intricacies of your G1 or 3G phone. They’re a lot more complex than you may think and there’s a whole world of things that you can do with them as long as you become equipped with the know-how to do so.

The second part of the installation entails actually installing the custom Android build onto your phone. This is pretty straightforward and by all accounts has one set of specific instructions that should bring you about success as long as, again, you follow them to a T.
